Before going into technical concepts, I wish to share something about Services from internet and the www with you all today.

There are many services from internet, which provides us the access to a huge amount of information over the Internet. We can mainly categorize the Internet services into four types. They are Communication services, Information retrieval services, Web services and the World Wide Web.
Communication Services offer the exchange of information with individuals or groups. E-mail, Telnet, Newsgroup, Internet Relay Chat, Mailing lists, VoIP are some of the examples for this kind of communication services.
Next, if we see the Information Retrieval Services they are the services offering easy access to information present on the internet. File Transfer Protocol(FTP), Archie, Gopher and VERONICA(Very Easy Rodent Oriented Netwide Index to Computer Achieved) are some examples for this Information Retrieval Services.
Then comes the Web services. These services allow exchange of information between applications on the web. Interaction between applications will become easy by using these web services. Actually the web services are offered using the concept of Utility Computing.
Now we are going to see about the massive World Wide Web(WWW) invented by Tim Berners-Lee.

‘World wide’ means global distribution and ‘Web’ means in this context of Network computing. The world wide web is actually a network of online content that is formatted in HTML and accessed via HTTP(Hyper Text Transfer Protocol). In other words we can say it as all the resources and users on the internet that are using HTTP. An important point to take into mind is that Internet and Web are not the same things. Web uses internet to pass the information. Almost everything can be found on the www servers nowadays. That is, their content scope is getting widened.
That’s all for this post. Hope you enjoyed it. I will meet you with a new post very soon.
