Data communication refers to the exchange of data between source and receiver via a transmission media. The communication of data shall be said to be local if the communicator is situated in the same building or geographically similarly restricted.

Components or Elements of a Data Communication
Source/ Sender :- The data sending device is known as the source.
Client/ Receiver :- The data receiving device is called the receiver
Transmission Media :- It’s the physical channel or path by which the message is transmitted to the sender.
Message :- It is the communicated information or data. It can be a combination of text, numbers, pictures, sound or video.
Protocol :- Protocol is a system of rules that allow two or more entities of a communication system to transmit information.
Characteristics of Data Communication
Delivery, Accuracy and Timeliness are the three main characteristics of data communication. The system must deliver the data to the correct destination accurately without a significant delay.
